September Features
Sewing.org is the premier site for free sewing and craft projects, learn to sew articles, SEW-lutions Guidelines, and the My Sewing and Craft Room section - a place to share your creative space!
September is National Sewing Month
Go Green! Sew Green! We see our environment differently now and recognize that we can make a difference without sacrificing comfort or style. New advances in “green” technology and processes mean you can now Sew Green! with beautiful, organically grown fabrics that are good for you and safe for the environment. Sewing Green doesn’t require that you toss your fabric stash though. You can still Sew Green! by choosing sewing notions that are eco-friendly and by using compact fluorescent bulbs in your sewing room
Visit the National Sewing Month website for information on how you can Sew Green.
New Projects
Cup Cozy and Can Cozy Keep drinks warm and cans cool (and protect hands too!) with these cozies. Make a few and keep them in your car or at your desk... and make them “green!” Create your cozies with organic cottons or other eco-friendly fabrics and fleece. Don’t want to shop? Recycle an old pair of jeans and torn fleece jacket into cozies for friends and coworkers. Project courtesy of Kwik-Sew
Fleece Shag Rug Jazz up your space or dress up a dorm room with this comfy fleece rug. Fleece fabrics can be made from recycled plastic. How much? It takes just 25- 2 liter soda bottles to make one adult size fleece jacket Project courtesy of JoAnn Fabric & Crafts
My Sewing & Craft Room
Rachel Krezer’s sewing room is well organized, thanks to the addition of pre-made counters and wire baskets. After knocking down one wall, her new space is roomy and filled with light.
This Month’s New Guidelines
8.150 Making Rod Pocket Curtains The clean, uncluttered lines of rod pocket curtains make them winning choices for almost any window!
8.151 Tab Top Curtains Tab-top curtains have fabric loops sewn in the upper edge to showcase a decorator curtain rod or pole.
Guidelines are one- and two-page educational articles in pdf format. View the entire catalog of Guidelines — they’re your Guide to Successful Sewing!
